
We distill it low and slow, then age it in American oak barrels. We solera age our whiskey the same way that many of the world’s finest ports, sherries, and rums are aged. Whiskey in the bottom barrels of the ‘solera stack’ are partially harvested, blended, and bottled. From there, the younger second tier is cascaded down into the lower barrels and mixed with the older spirit to continue the aging process. Barrels on the top tier are topped off with new make whiskey to begin aging anew. The result is a remarkably smooth and approachable whiskey. Our whiskey received a bronze medal from the New York International Spirits Competition (2019) and the Great American Spirits Competition (2019). As well, we received a silver medal from the USA Spirits Rating (2019).

A lighter, unaged spiced rum. Starting with our clear rum as the base, we add our own blend of natural flavors and spices including but not limited to; pure vanilla, allspice, cinnamon, and clove. We do not add sugar or molasses to the back end. This is a spiced rum that works just well as a sipping rum as it does in cocktails. No concentrates or syrups are used. The Crossed Rifles Spiced Rum won a silver medal from the New York International Spirits Competition (2019) and a bronze from the Great American Spirits Competition (2019).

A corn based vodka that is distilled 10 times then slowly filtered through three feet of activated carbon. Given that we use only gravity to pull the spirit through the carbon filter, this filtering process takes days to complete each batch. Black Chevron Vodka was awarded a bronze medal by the American Distilling Institute (2019).

A light, clean rum made from bagasse sugar and molasses which was sourced from a 7th generation family run sugar consortium called Lula-Westfield in Belle Rose, Louisiana. Bagasse sugar is the first crystallization of sugar, so it still contains many ‘impurities’ like caramelized molasses and bits of the cane stalk; thus lending a richness not often found in a white rum. We distill our rum in a traditional pot still designed to carry over as much of the character from the bagasse sugar and molasses. Light and clean, you’ll enjoy this in all of your favorite rum based drinks.

100% corn liquor straight from the still. The corn is grown locally here in Powhatan by Engel Family Farms and ground on-site at the distillery to ensure the maximum freshness before going into the still. We distill it slow in a pot still to bring over as much corn flavor as possible without much burn. Just as it’s illicit ancestors that used to be transported up and down the old Route 13, this is ‘moonshine’ the way it should be.
